Ro Pettiner

This project which will elevate the appreciation of American Cuisine and preserve valuable vintage recipes as part of our heritage is a legacy project of Ro Pettiner for her grandchildren and all the grandchildren of the country.  Ro often does baking and cooking ‘camps’ in Boston, MA,  with her younger grandchildren there and has shared many recipes and cooking with her older ones in Chesterton, IN. She considers that she has a heritage of great cooking and good recipes from her own family to preserve and will love having others share their longtime favorites which most represent classic American cooking.  She has resided the last forty years in Carmel, IN, the best place to live in the entire country according to many national sources but values her small town upbringing in Mitchell, IN, home of the annual Persimmon Festival every September.  Always a creator, she loves music, gardening, design of any kind and has a very deep appreciation of the arts.

The American Food Movement was founded on the principle of challenge.  Ms. Liz Biro, famous food writer for the Indianapolis Star, part of the USA Today network, issued the challenge at the first sanctioned USA Today Storytellers Indianapolis event in November of 2017. Upon lamenting to Liz her fear of losing our vintage food heritage recipes, Ro was challenged by Liz to write them down. Ro accepted. The American Food Movement was founded to funnel via website and other media the heritage recipes into cookbook form, The American Heritage Cuisine Cookbook, set for future publication. Participation is vital…send your special recipe and family story today!
